Printed Circuit Board-based Linear Ion Trap Mass Spectrometer

A novel method of constructing an ion trap mass analyzer is proposed and built base on normal printed circuit board (PCB) fabrication technology. The PCB ion trap, consists of only four 10×40 mm PCB electrodes and two metalic electrodes, has a simple structure and very low cost. The preliminary experiments shown that the PCB ion trap has a mass resolution in excess of 400 and higher than 1 000 Thomson mass range.
