Determination of Trace Volatile Organic Compounds in Drinking Water by GC-MS

  • A method for determination of volatile organic compounds in drinking waterby fused silica capillary GC-MS has been described in the present paper. Theorganic components were absorbed on the Amberlite XAD-2 and afterwards desor-bed at 190°C. During this period a stream of pure N_2 was passed over the adsor-bent to flush away the concentrated and desorbed volatile components. The sam-ples were injected into GC-MS. The 20 kinds of compounds have been identifiedand 5 halogenated hydrocarbons have also been quantified. The detection limitwas below 0.1μg/l. The results have been discussed.
