Determination of 3 Zeranols Residues in Bovine Urine by GC/MS

Abstract
A multiresidue method is described in this paper for determining zeranol and its metabolites in bovine urine by gas chromatography and mass spectrometry. The process of sample extraction and clean-up were optimized, then using selective ion detection technique to avoid matrix interference. These compounds include α-Zeranol, β-Zearalanol
and Zearalanone, which were extracted with acetonitrile, and coextractives were removed using a C18-SPE cartridge and a neutral alumina SPE cartridge, then eluted with acetone water (95∶5,v/v). Analysis was performed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.5 μg/L and 1.0 μg/L, respectively. The recoveries for the compounds ranged from 87.5% to 97.2%.
