A New Spectrometer——Sputter Initiated Resonance Ionization Time—of—Flight Mass Spectrometer (SIRI—TOFMS)

A new system, sputter initiated resonance ionization time—of—flight mass spectrometer (SIRI—TOFMS), which can provide an ultrasensitive analysis of solid samples for all elements except helium and neon, has been built in our laboratory. This apparatus is described here in detail. It has a wide range of application for many fields in science and engineering. We have determined the concentration of Au in AuCu alloy with the SIRI—TOFMS. The sensitivity limit about 5×10~(-8) and the mass resolution about 400 have been gained.
