Determination of Benzene and Its Homologues in Water-Based Emulsion Adhesives for Cigarette with Headspace Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry

  • A headspace-gas chromatography-mass spectrometric method was developed for the determination of benzene and its homologues in the water-based emulsion adhesives. The samples were dissolved by N,N-dimethylformamide and injected with static headspace extract, at last the benzene, toluene, o-xylene,m-xylene or p-xylene and styrene in 5 water-based emulsion adhesive samples were determined by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry under selected ion monitoring mode. The results show that the calibration curves show good linearity over the range of 0.05 to 2.0 mg/L for all the compounds with the correlation coefficients of 0.998 0 to 0.999 4. The detection limits (LODs) are from 0.01 to 0.03 mg/kg. The average spiked recoveries of two added level on 0.2 μg and 1.0 μg are in the range of 93.7%—102%, and the relative standard deviations(RSDs) are from 4.21% to 7.82%.
