The Basic Concept and Determination Method of Gas-Phase Basicity and Proton Affinity

  • Proton affinity (PA) and gas-phase basicity (GB) are important thermochemical properties of compounds measured regularly by mass spectral techniques. The concepts of gas-phase passivity and proton affinity are introduced, their determination methods using mass spectrometry techniques are reviewed, including ionization threshold measurements, theoretical calculation, gas phase equilibrium constant measurements, reaction bracketing, kinetic method and thermokinetic method.
