Extractive Atmospheric Pressure Chemical Ionization

  • An extractive atmospheric pressure chemical ionization (EAPCI) source was developed and coupled to a commercially available linear ion trap mass spectrometer for direct analysis of polar and non-polar compounds in complex matrices. Mass spectra of non-polar molecule such as diethylether and methylbenzene were obtained in the humid air and/or other solvents. The limit of determination of this method was found to be 5.0×10-6 g•L-1. Preliminary data show that EAPCI is potentially useful for applications in fast detection of non-polar molecules and fast analysis of biological samples such as ocimene in gardenia flower without sample pre-treatment.
